I think a family newletter is a promising thing and it makes a family have fun and love each other we have a big family and we should love one another as well as praying and staying together. My aunt said we are from France and England as our family was from there and so we are investigating it. I think that it is fun and now with my own family it is fun as well will make something new for us now.
Thank you,
Velma

When any newspaper has to acquire money not from their advertisers. It means that there is going to be a problem. I know that Buffalo had two newspapers. The Buffalo News was able to continue but the Courier was dismantaled. It could not compete. I loved the Courier and would have liked it to continue. The newspaper is going the way of the dinosaur because you can get current news on the net.

I worked for a family newspaper, too -- The Daily Oklahoman. The conservative publisher used it to wield power over public officials and make them do what he wanted. He promoted newsroom managers who would kill stories that tended to make Republican elected officials look bad. If it was a story about one of his friends abusing public money? Forget it.

Key sentence right here: "Then in 1983 the company goes public and begins aggressive expansion, acquiring a bunch more broadcast outlets and boosting revenue to new heights."

Taking all these companies public meant they had to suddenly achieve year-over-year growth.

I saw a report somewhere (the NY Times?) that a major source of Zell's funding was... the employee pension fund! And the employees are now looking at much reduced pension funding, well beyond what the market has done to everybody.

IOW, it's arguable that the board sold out the employees to get out of the Trib before the s**t hit the fan.
